How to Get Eyeliner Worthy of a 'Pretty Little Liar'

Ashley Benson's eye makeup might be my favorite part of the teen drama.

Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube — a search for “makeup tutorial” and “hair tutorial” yields more than 5 million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what’s best.

I am definitely way above the target age demo for the ABC Family hit show "Pretty Little Liars," but that doesn't mean I haven't binge-watched it on Netflix — or that I don't follow most of the series' stars on various forms of social media. My favorite of the four leading ladies is Ashley Benson; not only does she seem like a super chill, down-to-earth chick that I'd love to hold hands and run around the Coachella grounds with (Ashley, call me!), but also because she's a babe, and she can always be counted on to post cute outfit-of-the-day photos and selfies of her flawless makeup.

One element of Benson's look I admire is her dark, bold eye makeup, which I've tried to copy an embarrassing amount of times, never to get right. So, while perusing YouTube, I came across this tutorial by well-known vlogger Tanya Burr, who knocks it out of the park. She uses products you likely have in your makeup bag already (waterproof kohl eyeliner pencil, dark brown shadow for filling in brows, purple and gold toned eyeshadows) and the way she breaks down the smokey eye makes it seem simple enough to do on your own, anytime.

The season finale of "Pretty Little Liars" airs on Tuesday night, so perhaps I'll give this a whirl in anticipation of the event.
