Olivier Rousteing presented his fall 2015 collection for Balmain in Paris on Thursday afternoon, and just as we expected, it wasn't the clothing that took center stage during the show. Before a single model had stepped onto the runway, Twitter was abuzz with big news from the front row: Kanye West and Kim Kardashian — the faces of the label's spring menswear campaign — made their grand entrance, with Kardashian debuting a brand new platinum blonde hairstyle. And there you have it, folks. Internet gold.
Paparazzi snaps from earlier in the day show the 34-year-old reality star wearing a full-coverage black knit cap, clearly waiting for the ideal moment to make the big reveal: Right as she was walking into the venue with her husband and mother, Kris Jenner, by her side.
While we can't be sure if Kardashian planned the stunt with the social media-savvy Rousteing — who just hit one million followers on Instagram, making him the most-followed French fashion designer on the platform — it definitely further proves that they're both masterful at marketing. This kind of instant buzz is invaluable.
As soon as the show began, it became apparent that Rousteing would not disappoint when it came to his casting, either. Thanks to his loyal #BalmainArmy, the designer not only boasted an incredibly diverse model lineup this season, but a powerful one, as well. Alessandra Ambrosio, Jessica Stam, Lily Donaldson, Adriana Lima, Joan Smalls, Jourdan Dunn, Magdalena Frackowiak, Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss and, of course, Kendall Jenner all walked, making for one of the most stacked runways of Fashion Month thus far.
We should probably mention the clothes as well: The fall Balmain collection is as sexy and party-ready as ever, with head-to-toe looks made from sheer lace, lots of beaded fringe, strong-shouldered jackets, cut-out satin evening gowns, pleats aplenty and miniskirts galore, all in a rich, '80s-tinged color palette. But, with all of the other excitement happening around the runway (Jared Leto debuted new platinum hair, too!), we wouldn't be surprised if the collection ended up being an afterthought for certain show-goers. And we can't help but wonder if that was the plan all along.
