Miranda July was a delightful surprise among the indie starlets sitting front row at Miu Miu's fall 2015 show in Paris on Wednesday. The writer/director/author/performance artist created a phone app and short film for the brand's "Women's Tales" film series in 2014, so it makes sense that she would show up. But unlike other typical front row guests at these things, July isn't wearing the requisite seasonal frock, styled in the exact same way it came down the runway. Instead, she's chosen a plaid shirt and Bermuda shorts — exactly the kind of outfit we imagine the always adorably dressed July would wear to visit Disneyland on a spring day. Okay, she probably wouldn't wear pointy nude patent leather pumps, but even those look natural (it's Paris Fashion Week, after all).
The soft plaid shirt has an unusually complex color palette, mixing baby pinks and blues with red and orange. The sky blue is a particularly perfect fit for her, causing her eyes to stand out even more than usual. She kind of looks like an alien who followed the well-dressed but quirky Miu Miu crowd, and is puzzled by the flash of the cameras.
July tweeted a front row selfie with her seatmate Agnès Varda, a French film director, adding that it was an honor to whisper with her about Miu Miu's latest offerings during the show. Miranda, if you ever need someone to whisper about clothes with, let us know. It would be our honor, too.
