Is there anything more versatile than a striped t-shirt? In the summer time, there's no wrong way to wear it. A long-sleeve mariner can give a French gamine vibe, while a graphic short-sleeve version can have a borrowed from the boys appeal. Our editor's favorites ranged from high (Band of Outsiders) to low (Uniqlo, a double favorite) in standard colors like black and red and even a touch of floral, in one instance.

Uniqlo men's washed t-shirt in orange, $19.90, available at Uniqlo.
My favorite cotton striped tops lately are from the men's section at Uniqlo. They still have a slim fit so there's no alteration necessary and they get softer with every wash. I never leave for a vacation or weekend away without at least one of these tucked into my bag — I plan on picking up this red, white and navy one to have on hand for all Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day festivities throughout the summer.

Band of Outsiders rose print top, $225, available at Net-a-Porter.
I already have plenty of basic striped shirts; this structured one with decorative roses satisfies my love for stripes along with my need for more interesting shirts.

Uniqlo men's washed t-shirt in blue, $19.90, available at Uniqlo.
I purchased this men's striped tee from Uniqlo in a size that's just slightly too large. I love the baggy, relaxed fit. I also toned down the prepiness by embroidering "asshole" on it. Sorry, Mom.

Cos cotton t-shirt, $19, available at Cos.
Navy stripes might be classic, but this Cos t-shirt turned me onto light blue as a summery alternative. It's a color that I associate most vividly with my clothing preferences in middle school, but as it turns out, 12-year-old me grasped a very simple truth: I look good in this color. Done and done, and for just $19.

H&M men's basic t-shirt, $7.95, available at H&M.
As I explained in a recent editor's pick, I bought this shirt impulsively on a hot day mostly because it was lightweight and soft. Since then, I've worn it compulsively with boyfriend jeans and tucked into a navy fluted skirt. It's sharp and bold and extremely easy to wear all at the same time.

J.Crew striped boatneck tee, $39.50, available at J.Crew.
I own a number of striped tees — from cropped silk versions to soft jersey turtlenecks — which I like to pair with solid-color A-line skirts or cropped pants for a simple, graphic look. By far my favorite is a cotton boatneck tee from J.Crew with three-quarter length sleeves I bought a few years ago. I wear mine almost every week from early spring through mid-fall: It's definitely a wardrobe staple.
