The past year hasn't been an easy one for Frida Giannini and Patrizio di Marco, the former creative director and CEO of Gucci, respectively. After years of flat and then declining sales, both Giannini and di Marco were unceremoniously fired from their positions by Gucci's parent company, Kering, at the end of 2014. Giannini was initially invited to stay on until February to complete the fall 2015 collection, but she ended up leaving almost immediately, allegedly driven out by di Marco's replacement, Marco Bizarre. Gucci's head accessories designer, Alessandro Michele, replaced her just weeks later.
While their professional lives remain in flux, the pair celebrated their personal commitments to one another in a marriage ceremony in Rome on Friday. Valentino Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli — who are close friends of Giannini's — created a custom haute couture gown for the occasion. The designers shared sketches of the long-sleeved lace and sheer paneled dress on Valentino's Instagram page, and to make the moment even sweeter, they designed a coordinating look for the couple's daughter, Greta. Don't you just love a fashion happy ending?
