I normally don’t have trouble with writer’s block (I swear!), but this particular post is posing an unfamiliar challenge. Today is my very first day at Fashionista, so, naturally, I’m a little nervous. Butterflies aside, I'm beyond excited to get started as an associate editor, bringing you all industry news that Fashionista does better than anyone.
I, like all you stellar readers, have been an avid Fashionista fan for years and years. It all started during my first magazine internship, when I spent every afternoon scrolling through the site and obsessively following those 2010-era editors on Twitter. I haven’t skipped a day since. Before joining Fashionista, I covered the news beat for Lucky’s website, writing about everything from Olivier Rousteing to Jnco Jeans and laser hair removal to North West. Before that, I was doing the digital thing (with Alyssa!) at Marie Claire.
Now, I suppose, comes the time when I present some "fun facts" about myself. I grew up in Chicago where I spent the majority of my early years eating deep dish pizza and/or watching the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Turtles are my favorite animal. I believe I'm equal parts Leslie Knope and Andy Dwyer. My college roommate once walked in on me teaching myself the "Single Ladies" dance in our room. And when I was in seventh grade, I got made fun of for wearing an absolutely insane, '70s-inspired outfit from Zutopia. For the record: My enthusiasm for the ’70s has not changed, and neither has my desire to wear whatever I want.
If you want to chat about any of the above (or to just say hi!), you can find me on Twitter at @maura_brannigan or on Instagram at the same handle. Thanks, as always, for reading, and for officially welcoming me to the Fashionista team!
