Dhani hit on a very hot topic in an editor's pick earlier this month: Right now, it is nearly impossible to find denim shorts that aren't so short that the crotch seam is the longest part. Underbutts are on display left and right around this city on a hot summer day.
I recently popped into American Eagle hoping to find something of a decent length — not work-appropriate length, but crease-covering — that is stretchy enough to have a shapewear effect. I also wanted it to be a pure dark wash with no rips or distressed areas.
The AEO Denim x Hi-Rise Shortie Super Stretch turned out to be the perfect mix of all those elements. It's only 57 percent cotton — the rest of the fabric is a mix of modal, elastane and polyester that makes it very stretchy and very soft. Plus, the higher waist is super flattering and makes it easy to pair with shorter shirts.
Disclaimer: If your legs are ten thousand miles long like the model's on AE's site, it might be too short for you. You can always uncuff the edges, though, for a few extra inches.
AEO Denim x Hi-Rise Shortie Super Stretch, $44.95, available at American Eagle.
