Carrie Underwood and Lauren Conrad have a lot in common: They both got their starts on television, they kind of look alike, they both have Celebrity Clothing Lines and come September, they'll both unveil their latest collections at New York Fashion Week.
Underwood will show her Calia activewear line, launched last year in partnership with national retailer Dick's Sporting Goods, on Sept. 10 at The HQ, an IMG venue next to Milk Studios that will host a series of events throughout the week. According to WWD, it will be less of a show and more of a "glorified pop-up" (zing!) because, just like at Conrad's event, attendees will be able to shop the collection right then and there.
That Underwood has chosen to show her line at Fashion Week is somewhat surprising: as prevalent as activewear is right now, it still doesn't make a lot of sense in that environment. However, given how few celebrities there are on the calendar this season, she may be able to generate some buzz. With the exceptions of well-respected mainstays like Victoria Beckham and The Row's Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the only celebs showing to our knowledge are Conrad, Underwood and — if he counts — the Fat Jewish. (As of yet, there's no word on whether Kanye West plans to show a second collection for Adidas.) Do you think this is her chance to be taken more seriously as a designer?
