Summer is coming to a close, and before we know it, we're going to be switching out our sundresses, sandals and lightweight blouses for pieces that are a little more substantial. The first fall-appropriate items that I turn to for this transitional weather are usually leather boots, a motorcycle jacket and plaid shirts — sometimes worn open over a tank, or buttoned up as an extra layer when nights begin to get a bit chilly. While I do love plaid, it can be pretty boring due to its ubiquity, and the fact that every brand under the sun offers its own version of a flannel — even luxury labels like Saint Laurent and Isabel Marant.
On Tuesday in Los Angeles, actress Jordana Brewster modeled what might be the perfect alternative to a plaid shirt: a short-sleeved, tie-waist jumpsuit that serves as a great in-between season solution. While it's still warm, I'd wear it much like Brewster does above, with a sweet side braid and open-toed shoes for an easy, breezy daytime look. But when temperatures drop considerably, my aforementioned boots and jacket layered overtop will allow me to enjoy the comfortable piece for months to come — especially if I throw tights on underneath for extra warmth. Arguably the best part of Brewster's look? You can buy it right now at Madewell.
