Slowly but surely, Lizzy Caplan has turned into a low-key style icon. While never incendiary, she's frequently unimpeachable and very consistent. With one small caveat, which we'll get to in a minute, her appearance in Proenza Schouler at the Monday night premiere of "Sleeping with Other People" was another check mark in a growing series of Notably Good Looks.
The great here includes Caplan's summery-but-in-a-cool-way dress and combination of middle-parted hair, dangling gold earrings and smoked-out eye makeup. A totally lovely evening look befitting a relatively chill movie premiere.
The not-so-awesome includes those shoes. At first blush, they kind of make you go:
The color is jarring, even if it does correspond to some small blue elements in the dress's pattern, and the dual laser cut/lace-up thing is a little overwhelming. Between the color and the architecture, maybe pick one or the other. But even the caveat gets a condition, because firstly: the robin's egg blue is offbeat in kind of a great way; and second: these are not the ubiquitous minimalist strappy sandals that have become practically mandatory on the red carpet! (The Spanx of footwear.) And for that willingness to deviate from the herd, we give Ms. Caplan a firm nod of solidarity.
