I've never been one for properly — which is to say, fully — applied lipstick. To reassure myself that it's not going to migrate onto my teeth, it's got to be blotted, dabbed, reapplied and then wiped off nearly entirely. The goal at the back of my mind, I suppose, is a stain. And I do realize they make products specifically for that purpose, which is what I was looking for when I went to the drug store over the weekend for an affordable pick-me-up.
Here's what I found: Maybelline's Color Blur lip pencil, which has a matte color at one end and a waxy smudger at the other. As I was pleased to discover, it provides total control over where that pigment goes, since it doesn't easily budge without the help of that smudger — thus making it the ideal tool for creating a softly faded look without having to get color all over your fingertips. (Or, on the flip side, without putting your hands near your mouth when you're in a grimy bar bathroom.)
I'm a fan of concentrating the color at the center of my lips for a post-popsicle effect. The only downside to this particular product is that it's a bit drying. But it's nothing a little lip balm can't fix.
