There are certain tenets that must be upheld at every music-based awards show — most of which seem to revolve around Taylor Swift these days. Now that Swift is the reigning High Priestess of Pop, she's entitled to roll in with a girl gang that's however-many models, actresses and fellow songstresses strong as she'd like. Swift, naturally, must be in the center of every group picture, though Calvin Harris and/or Ed Sheeran is permitted to infiltrate the female brood — but only after the red carpet wraps up.
Sunday night's VMAs — a ceremony in which Swift landed nine nominations — was no different as she arrived with nine plus-ones, all of whom appeared in her hugely hyped "Bad Blood" music video. Models comprised the majority of the crew with five members (Cara Delevingne, Martha Hunt, Lily Aldridge, Gigi Hadid and Karlie Kloss), three actresses (Hailee Steinfeld, Serayah McNeill and Mariska Hargitay) and fellow songstress Selena Gomez.
In a two-piece Ashish pantsuit, Swift took a creative approach to her getup. Despite the look's long sleeves and funky herringbone pattern, she revved up the sex appeal with a bare midriff and some aggressively smoky eye makeup. So, lest you forget: She's well-equipped to cater to her tween fans, but can also double as a Victoria's Secret Angel when needed. It's a perfect, yet difficult balance for a pop star — but that's what makes her so powerful.
