It's nice to know jumpsuits are still enjoying their time in the sun, seasons after their splashy red carpet resurgence began. We don't see them fading into banality anytime soon — and for good reason! They're far more practical than floaty, cascading cupcake gowns and can be even sexier than those trusty ol' naked dresses. Plus, if Diane Kruger, sartorial steamboat, is still wearing them, that means they're still very much A Thing, and will be for quite some time.
At the opening dinner of the 72nd Venice Film Festival on Wednesday, Kruger arrived wearing a sleek, cherry red jumpsuit from Cushnie et Ochs's pre-fall 2015 collection. Like everything the actress/poetic and noble land-mermaid wears, the garment looked stellar on her and like only she could pull off. While Kruger has been known to wear some particularly playful pieces, this get-up was more on the mature side; she is on the jury for the festival, after all. Then, the hair: While such an elegant garment could tolerate a funky braid or slicked-back ponytail, she kept simple with a breezy updo.
But the greatest part of Kruger's red carpet prowess is how easy she makes it all look. Could you make wearing a body-hugging, crimson jumpsuit with under-boob cut-outs look as easy as slipping into a pair of flannel pajamas? No, you couldn't — because that's Kruger's job.
