I like beautiful clothes as much as the next person — but clothes that are super-functional? Those are the clothes I love.
So it was pretty much love at first sight when I came across J.Crew's shrunken field mechanic jacket, which beyond offering some respite from the chill here in London, is super soft, has seven generously sized pockets and a drawstring waist (which keeps the jacket fitted when worn open). Plus, its broken-in casualness provides a nice contrast to my dressy midi skirts. What I like most about it is the collar, which is unexpectedly thick and stands up on its own — thanks to the convenient rain hood tucked inside.
It's just the thing to pack for a trip away — and I'm sure I'll get plenty of use out of it when I return home to New York, too.
J.Crew field mechanic jacket, $178, available at J.Crew.
