Goop has hired Jean Godfrey-June as its beauty director, a new role for Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle company. The former Lucky beauty director will be significantly expanding the site's beauty coverage, Godfrey-June wrote in an e-mail to Fashionista on Friday.
Godfrey-June is one of the best-known beauty editors in the industry. She was Lucky's first and only beauty director, a role Kim France hired her for when Lucky was founded in 2000. [Disclosure: I worked at Lucky in 2014, not directly with Godfrey-June.] Her friendly, approachable style of beauty writing became a signature for the magazine. Since the title went all-digital in February, Godfrey-June has been writing for publications such as WSJ. Magazine, Marie Claire, Teen Vogue, The Cut and The Estée Edit. Before Lucky, Godfrey-June was the beauty director of Elle.
Godfrey-June will join a team led by Editorial Director Elise Loehnen, another Lucky alum. Goop is expanding as a content-meets-commerce operation, most recently making changes on the business side: In October it hired former Martha Stewart Living Omnichannel CEO Lisa Gersh as its chief executive and in February Goop entered a long-term business venture with Juice Beauty.
