You could say that Mariah Carey is not only the music industry's premier diva, but also the human embodiment of the holiday spirit. It's not really Christmas until revelers listen to her 1994 hit "All I Want for Christmas Is You" upwards of 600 times leading up to Dec. 25 — and potentially a handful of times during the summer months, too, for nostalgia purposes.
Normally, publishing such blatantly seasonal content when it's not even October gets people a bit grouchy — but in the case of Carey, we feel comfortable bending the rules on this 82-degree September day. In a seemingly inescapable move, MAC Cosmetics announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with the singer on a holiday-themed makeup collaboration, due out in December. Rather than a full range, Carey will just be releasing one product: "All I Want" lipstick, that's described in a press release as a "champagne shimmer frost." We're not getting any more information than that, but we can all rest assured that the gloss in question will be as sparkly as the Rockefeller Center christmas tree with a nude base tone.
Here's what MAC's Senior Vice President/Group Creative Director James Gager had to say about all this in this morning's release:
"Mariah is the over-the-top pop and beauty icon. Throughout the years we've all watched her with admiration and feel right now she is at her ultimate best. She exudes elegance, glamour, sophistication or sense of fun. Her 'All I Want' lipstick is the perfect frosty holiday shade and her Beauty Icon collection will be everything you think of when you think MAC and Mariah."
This calls for a celebration, don't you think?
