Taraji P. Henson Wears Custom, Chain-Accented Alexander Wang to the Emmys
It should be clear by now that if you're remotely a fan of television, you should — nay, need — to be watching "Empire." On the cusp of its second season premiere, the stars of Lee Daniels's masterpiece are working that press junket like nothing we've seen in months — though it's not like we're complaining, of course. The rules of moderation, it seems, don't apply to ridiculously fabulous women like Taraji P. Henson, who plays the equally fabulous Cookie Lyon, a universal crowd-favorite amongst "Empire" fans and non-watchers alike.
On Sunday night's Emmy Awards, Henson is nominated for a lead actress statuette — and to do her character justice, she had to wear something, well, exceptional. For the occasion, the 45-year-old actress opted for an impressive, custom-made Alexander Wang gown that's both floaty and fitted, gothic and dainty. A snug bustier draws attention to her bodice, while a see-through lace skirt provides much relief to the 100-odd degree Los Angeles heat. The creation's straps, made of inch-long silver chains, give it the edge that Wang does better than anyone. Henson and Wang's red carpet union goes beyond aesthetics, however: Wang was her first-ever date to the Met Ball, so tonight, it truly comes full circle.
