Barneys Launches Same-Day Delivery for New York Customers
Barneys is going the way of Amazon.
The upscale department store is launching same-day delivery for orders placed through its website — if, that is, you live in Manhattan or Brooklyn, the boroughs in which its New York stores are located. Buy that Public School jacket or platform Alexander Wang boots before noon on Monday through Friday, and you'll get the goods between 5 and 8 p.m.; order before 10 a.m. on Saturday, and they'll arrive between 3 and 6 p.m. (Items that you don't want to keep can be returned via courier pickup or by mail.)
That's instant gratification, all for the relatively low added price of $25. The service could certainly be helpful if you got invited to a wedding at the last minute and need an outfit, or if you, like many, simply have no capacity for patience. (Or don't want to hire a TaskRabbit to do the job.)

Barneys operates 12 stores outside New York, in cities including Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Boston, though no word if same-day delivery will be coming to those areas soon, as well. (In addition to its department stores, the privately held company runs a number of Barneys Warehouse locations.) Net-a-Porter already has same-day delivery up and running for customers living in New York and parts of New Jersey through a service called Net-a-Porter Premier — with its new offering, Barneys might be able to claim some of those antsy luxury customers for itself.
