As I made my way through the September and October issues, I found myself gravitating to the editorials with the simplest clothes, and the same can be said about the wardrobe staples I'm hoping to stock up on for fall. A knit in a neutral color — one that is easily paired with slim trousers, vintage-inspired denim or a high-waisted skirt — is number one on my list, particularly a cashmere turtleneck that would provide me with a full season's worth of possibilities.
This sweater by Everlane is exactly what I've been searching for. It comes in a few different colors, from a more casual camel shade to ivory and black versions that could easily transition from day to night. In the office or on a weekend, I'd strategically leave some hair tucked into the turtleneck, throw on some skinny jeans and a pair of Chelsea boots for a classic (yet still modern) fall look. But, with red lipstick, some thigh-high boots and a sleek bun, it could do just as well for a date night or a holiday party. Who says you need to wear something flashy to get noticed?
The Cashmere Turtleneck, $170, available at Everlane.
