Last December, just as I was hitting peak frustration with the overpriced, already-pilling cashmere sweaters I'd purchased earlier that fall, my favorite style blogger, Garance Doré, wrote about how much she liked Uniqlo's cashmere v-neck sweaters. She'd just bought five in neutral colors, she wrote, and they paired so easily with everything she owned.
I'd already spent my fall clothing budget for 2014, but I filed that tidbit away for next year — and now I too am the owner of three Uniqlo cashmere v-neck sweaters, in charcoal (my favorite), black and navy. And let me just say: these are the best cashmere sweaters I've ever owned. Soft, medium-weight, with a wide-cut V that shows off my collarbone, I find myself wearing them with my most casual jeans and my dressiest skirts, and everything in between. Best of all, they don't pill easily. Since I purchased the charcoal one in early September, I've worn it at least twice a week (not least because it perfectly matches my wool Marni sandals), and only now is it starting to pill a little under the arms.
And did I mention they're a fraction of the cost of comparable styles at J.Crew and Everlane?
Uniqlo Cashmere V-Neck Sweater, $79.90, available at Uniqlo.
