I'm trying to get better at wearing exciting things. I really am! Remember that moody NASA T-shirt I wrote about last month, or the gold glitter boots that basically turn any ordinary person into Glinda the Good Witch? Those are both examples of the slightly zany items I now find myself gravitating to, and for good reason: I've already found myself getting bored with my winter wardrobe. This is problematic for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the temperature. It's 54 degrees — fahrenheit — as I type this, and it's only going to get much colder very, very soon.
So, it's time to get a little weird.
The other day, Chantal walked into our office wearing the coolest pair of jeans ever, distressed and with teensy pom-poms lining the outer seams. They were exactly the type of pants that might make one person on the street extremely confused, and another delighted — i.e., the very #aesthetic I'm now chasing. As it turns out, they were from Asos! How affordable! I immediately stormed their website to find a pair I, too, might enjoy, and came across these. Yeah, they're a little strange. One leg is a dark wash; the other is light. Where the two shades meet on the butt, there's a little (potentially unflattering) swoosh. They're technically labeled "Mom Jeans," which is ideal — any pair of jeans good enough for 2003-era Tina Fey and Amy Poehler is good enough for me.
But what makes them odd is what also makes them quirky. They're a conversation-starter, and surprisingly versatile. They'd look just as solid with a white T-shirt as with a patterned blouse, or sneakers and dainty pumps. TL;DR: They make me feel like this:
