I took myself to see the movie "Carol" over the weekend and spent the next 48 hours thinking about its costuming. The film, which stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara as two women engaged in a messy affair, doubles as an ode to early 1950s fashion. The dressing team's precision extends to the pair's beauty looks — in Blanchett's case, perfectly curled hair and glossy, manicured coral nails. The thoroughness and intentionality with which Blanchett's Carol prepares herself for the day is matched only by the confident way she seduces Mara's Therese. The woman is a goddamn baller.
It's enough to make you rethink rolling into the office in a sweatshirt (you know, a nice one) three times a week. Much easier than channeling Carol via a total closet overhaul, though, is picking up a new bottle of coral nail polish. Essie's California Coral is a nice option. And make note: It pairs best with a martini and a knowing smile.
