There generally tends to be something moody, dark and vaguely threatening about a Givenchy ad campaign, but Creative Director Riccardo Tisci's recent obsession with love and positive energy has washed some of that away for his spring 2016 images — but without sacrificing any of their power.
Officially welcoming several new faces to his Givenchy "family," Tisci features Isis Bataglia, Lexi Boling, Leila Goldkuhl, Kris Gottschalk, Imaan Hammam, Issa Lish, Lineisy Montero and Greta Varlese wearing the spring collection's delicate white lace dresses, which have a soothing effect against the industrial setting. In another photo, established models Natalia Vodianova and Candice Swanepoel are joined by a crew of suited-up men. Gemma Ward, Mariacarla Boscono, Lara Stone, Joan Smalls, Miranda Kerr and Iselin Steiro are featured in another. The ads were shot in lower Manhattan, where Tisci held his spring 2016 runway show in a moving tribute to the city.
Anohni, previously known as Antony Hegarty of the band Antony and the Johnson's, also contributed to the campaign in the form of a short poem — a "declaration of love" according to the brand's Facebook. "I am a child on the river, and love waits downstream: A waterfall to steal my breath, and change my mind," it reads.
"I'm not saying this will change the world, but the world will be better," Tisci tells WWD. "I'm a big believer in positive energy, and I'm sure this energy will spread."
