Much can be learned about people from their Google search histories and at the end of every year, the major search engine presents its top trending inquiries on topics like recipes, celebrity pregnancies and Super Bowl commercials to give the world a tiny glimpse into our own curious minds.

In the fashion category, people had a lot of how-to questions. In 2015, Google saw a spike in searches for "how to walk in heels," "how to fray jeans" and the definition of "mules shoes." It also appears that we still haven't figured out what to wear to a wedding that takes place in the woods (and that's okay) and what color shoes go with a black-and-blue dress.

For beauty, questions about the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge and lip fillers topped the list. No surprise there since the youngest of the Jenner-Kardashian clan was in the middle of a heated "did she or didn't she?" debate regarding her brand new pout this year. (Verdict: She did and she's making money off it, too.) Following up were queries on how to remove gel nail polish and acrylic nails, which could possibly be the result of the New York Times investigative series on the nail salon industry in New York City back in May. Men were interested in how to use beard balm — and grooming in general, as Google noticed more men are seeking hairstyle advice than women. Plus, people were searching for "how to pop a deep zit." Ew, you guys.

Google also pointed out that Lupita Nyong'o was the red carpet darling at this year's Oscars. And as a refresher, her custom Calvin Klein gown — made from 6,000 individual pearls of different sizes — was stolen from her own hotel room (and then recovered) a few days after the awards show. The rest of the list proves our point from last year's red carpet Google searches: Interesting looks bring in the most web traffic. Other highly searched Oscars outfits included Gwyneth Paltrow, who was dressed in a Ralph & Russo pastel pink gown, its shoulder sporting a giant flower, as well as Lady Gaga. The singer paired her custom Alaïa with oversized red gloves that garnered attention on Twitter and served as inspiration for a slew of memes.

But what really caught our attention were Google's top trending fashion designers of this year. Raf Simons's departure from Dior in October attracted a lot of buzz, but just behind the Belgian designer is Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss. While Gruss hasn't been covered by Fashionista since 2010, she continues to run her own namesake label and was appointed Elizabeth Arden’s first style director in 2013. Gruss's divorce at the end of 2014 did attract some media attention through to this year, including this Defamer piece from June that focused on her romance with Jerry Seinfeld back in 1994 — when the famous comedian was 38 and she was 17.
