Leveling a serene, unimpressed gaze at the camera in Prada's latest campaign, Yasmin Wijnaldum has the aura of a runway veteran — an impression enhanced by the fact that her co-stars are the supermodels Natalia Vodianova and Sasha Pivovarova, who has booked more than a few advertising gigs for the Italian brand in her time spent modeling. But, nope: At just 17, the Dutch model is in fact the freshest fresh face to kick off her career with a Prada campaign, following in the recent footsteps of Lineisy Montero, Willow Hand and Aya Jones.
Although this is her first major campaign, Wijnaldum did have a pretty sick show season this fall, walking Valentino, Giambattista Valli, Loewe, Lanvin, Chloe and, naturally, Prada's spring 2016 runways. (Plus, before and after that, Valentino fall 2015 haute couture and Chanel's pre-fall show in Rome.) She's represented by Elite worldwide, but recently signed with The Society in New York, home to Kendall Jenner, Andreja Pejic and Molly Bair. (A rep for The Society confirmed that Wijnaldum has joined the agency, since she isn't listed on its development board yet.)
So, yes, we would consider this young lady one to watch. Though, interestingly, it's also Natalia Vodianova's first Prada campaign ever, a milestone that her agency, DNA, verified for us on Monday morning. Even the pros have room to grow, apparently.
