On 'Broad City,' Abbi and Ilana Swap Outfits to Beat the Food Co-Op System
What city shenanigans are Abbi and Ilana up to on the latest episode of "Broad City"? For starters, there's the impromptu pick-up game with a group of preteen boys, standing in line for a hybrid dessert called a "churon" and the idea that swapping outfits can make up for a long-overdue six-hour shift at the local food co-op. Of course, not all of these scenarios go as planned. The archetypal "switching identities" plot brings a few misfortunes to Abbi and Ilana (or is that Abbi?). Read on for our breakdown of the duo's silly antics and, of course, the outfits from season three's second episode.
The Pick-Up Game
Abbi and Ilana find themselves being made fun of by a group of young boys at the start of the show. The duo challenge the preteens to a pick-up game of basketball and while you may think that Abbi's skinny jeans and Ilana's bright blue jumpsuit could hinder their athletic performance, you are mistaken. After a few layups and slam dunks, the girls win. But Abbi goes a little far with celebrating, completely deflating the boys' ball and making them cry. (Not pictured in this victorious screengrab: Ilana's clutch shaped like bright red lips and Abbi's checkered flannel that was tied around her waist. Also, can anyone identify the dude on Abbi's shirt?)
The 'Churon' Line
Abbi falls for the hype behind Dominique Däas Bakery's hybrid dessert, an anis-flavored "churon," or a mix between a churro and a macaron. Abbi unsuccessfully tries to make early-morning small talk with the woman standing in line behind her. Once the two manage to get their sweet treats, Ilana arrives and compliments the stranger's printed leggings, which she paired with a sweatshirt clad with sorority letters. The woman happily accepts Ilana's nice remark but also gives Abbi the middle finger before power-walking away.
The Co-Op Shift Switch

It's Ilana's last day to fulfill her work hours at the Greene Hills Food Co-Op to avoid being banned for life. But since she has to travel to Long Island for an HPV shot (hell yeah, women's health!), she conceives of the genius idea to have Abbi pretend to be her and take her shift. A montage scene occurs: They swap outfits; Abbi takes a huge hit from Ilana's vape; Abbi practices Ilana's key "Yas kween!" phrase; and Ilana styles Abbi's hair into two curly pigtails using a giant carrot. Abbi has transformed into a spitting image of her best friend.
Once at the co-op, Abbi kills it at impersonating Ilana ("Kyuh!") but finds herself in a conundrum when she meets Craig, a loyal co-op'er who loves Phish (just like Abbi), rocks a half-up topknot and wears a tank that's exceptionally flattering against his body hair and sweet tat.
Caught at the Co-Op
After Abbi admits to covering Ilana's shift to co-op crush Craig, the ladies end up in a dodgy stock room with Grandmaster Lori, who constantly has a baby wrap carrier affixed to her chest throughout the episode. (Lori claims the power of co-op produce has made her fertile into her 50s.) Long story short, they don't get away with it and are banned from the co-op for life. But, like in last week's premiere, it doesn't matter how much trouble they get into, as long as at the end of the day they're sprawled out on a couch, eating pizza and sharing a joint — together.
