Self-affirmation is great, but getting there is a slow road. You know what really swells your sense of self worth, and fast? Other people, ideally other women if you're also a woman, telling you how great you look — the 4 p.m. espresso and Snickers bar of confidence boosts. For this, I recommend Bumble and Bumble's Thickening Dryspun Finish, because I have been using it lately and let me tell you: I'm swimming in compliments. Not today, because my hair is greasy as hell from covering the Oscars last night and not having the emotional bandwidth to wash my hair. But before!

For limp-locked ladies like myself, a liberal spritz or seven of this spray — which, disclosure, I got as a free sample from the Bumble PR team — fluffs your hair into looking like it has body and wave. You'll suddenly find yourself slouching around cafés wearing oversized men's coats, doling out unimpressed looks at everyone except the hot barista, for whose benefit you'll laugh really loudly and then shake out your hair with one hand. (You're a jerk now.)

Optimal use goes like this. Wash your hair, blow dry most of the way, sleep on it, wake up, put the stuff in your hair, go for a walk, get a coffee, come home and read a book on your couch while sort of noodling your head back and forth against a pillow to work up the "bedhead" quotient. Tie your hair up, do some ab exercises, stand outside in the sun and call your parents (facing with your back to the wind). Take a shower, flip your hair upside down a few times. You're ready to go.
