Spoilers ahead.

We've arrived at the penultimate episode of the final season of "Downton Abbey." Costume designer Anna Robbins has already outdone herself this season, but nowhere has that been more apparent than in this episode. While watching I found myself saying, "Ooh!" (quietly in my head) more times than usual. Everyone looked great, especially Edith and Mary. The new outfits just kept coming.

Quite a bit happened plot-wise, too — the writers are really moving this thing along. Mary and Edith had the row to end all rows (culminating in Edith saying, "You're a bitch!" to Mary) after Mary outed Marigold as Edith's daughter to Bertie, who suddenly has a fancy new title. Mary broke up with Henry and then changed her mind. Mrs. Patmore's new bed and breakfast became a "house of ill repute" after an adulterous couple used it as a love nest. Anna couldn't stop giggling the whole episode. Poor Thomas tried to kill himself, and Mr. Molesley finally connected with the village kids as a teacher. Phew. But most importantly, everyone wore some incredible costumes, without any apparent repeats, and as a final sartorial treat, we see wedding dress number two for Mary.

We have to wait two more weeks for the two-hour series finale (possibly because PBS doesn't want to compete with the Oscars next Sunday), but in the meantime, there was a lot of good costuming to savor from this episode. Enjoy!
