What better way is there to honor the grotesquely American tradition that is the Super Bowl than by wearing an Italian designer head-to-toe? Just ask Lady Gaga, who wore a custom Gucci ensemble to perform the National Anthem at Sunday's big match-up at Levi's Stadium. To be fair, guys, Alessandro Michele did really uphold the whole red-white-and-blue thing — just check out Gaga's metallic red suit, which featured distinctly Harry Styles-esque flared trousers and striped platform heels to match.
And what could be more American than a glitter suit, matching eye shadow and 20-carat diamond studs, courtesy of Lorraine Schwartz?
Nothing, that's what. (Except, like, if Gaga rode into the stadium in the back of a Chevy pickup truck cutting into an apple pie while drinking a Budweiser and blaring Dolly Parton.)
But, in all seriousness here: If Gaga wanted to pay homage to this patriotic pastime by wearing something sparkly, why didn't she go with a look by Marc Jacobs, whose entire spring 2016 collection was based on jazzy, sequin-heavy Americana? We would've loved to see her rep an American designer, and this seems like something of a missed opportunity. Regardless, the singer nailed her vocal performance, and if you ask us, every Sunday night could use a little glitter. God bless the U.S.A.
