To this day, I've never seen a woman with a better complexion than my maternal grandmother's. Even at 80, my Nani had nary a wrinkle, let alone a scar or an oversized pore. She defied the rules of physics, and for much of my life, I've been hopeful that one day I, too, will inherit the fountain of youth that was apparently prevalent in her Eastern European bloodline. All that optimism, that reckless naiveté, was derailed several weeks ago when one "harmless" pimple popped up on my forehead, soon to be followed by another, and another... and another. Be it the clammy change of seasons or the stress that came with covering Paris Fashion Week from 3,625 miles away, I was 14 again. There's a reason I don't miss middle school.
To combat the hellscape that my face had become, I tried it all, including (but not limited to): spot treatments of the benzoyl peroxide variety, sheet masks, cleansers — but all that made it worse. So, I started from scratch and reverted to a granola-y, all-natural soap and this skin-care oil — an industry classic, judging from its Google search results. Let me run through how this stuff works. It's thick, slightly pink and takes a few minutes to dissolve into the skin — because it's so thick, you see what I'm saying? The consistent application did wonders, and soon, my complexion started to calm down. Things are still a little funky up there, but it's dramatically better than the catastrophe it was even 48 hours ago. Onward, into the belly of adulthood!
