On Thursday, Balenciaga announced that new Creative Director Demna Gvasalia will present his first menswear collection for the label with a runway show this summer, marking the first time the French house has presented menswear in this format. The show will take place during men's spring 2017 fashion week in Paris on June 22. As head designer of Vetements, Gvasalia already presents mens- and womenswear together in the buzzy streetwear brand's runway shows, which will now take place every January and June — two full months ahead of the rest of the shows at Paris Fashion Week.
Everything Gvasalia does is being closely followed right now, so it seems fitting that Balenciaga would want to make his menswear debut a major event. It will be interesting to see if he reacts to the widely publicized criticism he received after not casting a single model of color for his womenswear debut and decides to feature more diverse model lineup for mens.
