When I attended Tel Aviv Fashion Week late last year, the final runway show on the schedule was by a brand by the name of Dodo Bar Or, which, insiders told me one by one, was "the real deal." While I admittedly wasn't familiar with the Israeli designer (her full name is Dorit Bar Or) who launched her label back in 2009, I was clearly in the minority: The 10 p.m. show was so packed with friends, fans and benefactors who made sizable donations to charity in exchange for a front-row seat that myself and fellow editors watched from the back of the stands.
While I didn't see too much of the action on the runway, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the collection hit a number of my favorite retailers just in time for spring. I'm particularly fond of this gauzy cotton dress with criss-crossed straps, fringes and tassels, which would be the ideal garment for any day (or evening) strolling the beach — particularly the Tel Aviv coastline. Sadly, I don't see myself heading back to Israel for a while, but I'll likely pick up this dress and just play pretend all summer.
Dodo Bar Or dress, $250, available at Net-a-Porter.
