This is how it's done.

A quick search through Google image for "green velvet suit" won't yield much. There's Daniel Radcliffe on the November 2013 cover of Flaunt, Elijah Wood at the Golden Globes, David Beckham in a green, velvet blazer for the Haig Club commercial... and, well, that's about it in terms of celebrities in green velvet suits. Suffice to say, it's a really tricky color/silhouette/fabric combination, and one that requires an expert eye from an in-demand stylist — like Karla Welch, for instance — to pull off.

On Tuesday evening, with the help of Welch, "The Path" actress Michelle Monaghan expertly paired a green velvet suit by Frame with a vintage, floral Nina Ricci blouse for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation "Conversations" series. On anyone else, it could have looked a bit clownish or even dowdy, but the actress pulled off the look with aplomb.

"This is a look I want to steal off my clients' back! The blouse is vintage Nina Ricci and this is the new fall Frame suit. Everything about it makes me happy!!" said Welch over e-mail to Fashionista. (We feel the same.) Welch finished off the bold look with some demure Jimmy Choo heels, an excellent choice given all the unusual colors in the mix.

Ladies and gentlemen, take note: This is how you wear a green velvet suit.
