On Thursday morning, Time released its annual mega-list of whom it deems "the 100 most influential people in the world," dedicating six separate covers — featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Christine Lagarde, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Nicki Minaj, Priyanka Chopra and Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg — to the special issue. On the fashion front, Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci takes a prominent place inside the magazine, with Donatella Versace penning a brief, yet personal tribute to the designer Time names "Fashion's Agitator." In her salute, Versace asks what it takes to be considered "an influencer in 21st century fashion," naming such qualities as creativity, vision and "the strength to see that vision through."
"But you need something more," she writes. "You need to be an agitator, a rebel, someone who pushes boundaries and defies convention, someone who brings together fashion with art and other cultures." Versace goes on to deem Tisci "one of the most important figures in fashion right now," saying: "Riccardo is so brave and fearless, I sometimes think he must have Versace blood somewhere in his body. He is more than just a friend to me—he is family." You can read Versace's full column on Tisci here.
Elsewhere in the issue, Wendi Murdoch profiles Guo Pei, whom Time calls "China's Hottest Couturier." Guo was thrust into the international limelight after dressing Rihanna for the Met Gala in a gown that took two years to create. "When an artist finds success beyond China, there is a great sense of national pride, and Guo is no exception," writes Murdoch. "Her work showcases Chinese technique — intricate skill and incredible craftsmanship — and it reflects the endless hours dedicated to bringing beauty, romance and her imagination to life."
Karlie Kloss — dubbed "The Model Millennial" — is also featured under the "Pioneers" section, with Diane von Furstenberg writing a testimonial that describes Kloss as "the epitome of the ideal American millennial woman." Von Furstenberg writes: "As a model, a businesswoman, a young philanthropist and a force on social media, she doesn't just connect with her generation — she leads it, inspiring young women around the world to become the women they want to be, just as she has done so beautifully."
