Have you ever laid eyes on a red carpet look and had a physical, visceral reaction? This has only happened to me a few times in my life, but I can tell you that it usually occurs when I see a celebrity wearing something I might wear if I were suddenly to become famous. These sorts of outfits are aspirational by nature, but just feasible enough to pull off should I want to mimic it at home. In a way, these looks know me better than I know myself; it's as if they exist to say, "Go ahead! Try to wear that zany thing! It'll further your sense of style and deepen your sense of adventure!"
On Thursday morning, Alyssa sent the above photo of Dree Hemingway over our team's group chat — and I all but lost my mind. Here she is at a screening of Florence + the Machine's visual album "The Odyssey" on Wednesday in New York City, clad in Gucci, Converse sneakers and a ripped up Grateful Dead T-shirt. I don't know if it was the actress' stylist, Cher Coulter, who suggested wearing the coral-y suit with a band tee or if it was a product of her own imagination, but it's a pairing I won't soon forget.
Listen, don't we all want to morph into that girl who slides into a fancy cocktail party somehow making her Converse look as chic as Stuart Weitzman's Nudist heel? Yes, speaking as someone who aims to wear sneakers and/or my dad's old Rolling Stones T-shirt to all events! Hemingway pulled it off with aplomb, and you can bet I'll be going for an iteration of this exact outfit at my next semi-dressy occasion.
