With just eight months left of President Obama's two-term stint in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the First Lady has embraced the administration's victory lap like a champ. In 2016 alone, Michelle Obama has: a) traveled to Cuba for the U.S.'s first official visit to the country in nearly a century, b) helped Queen Elizabeth II ring in her 90th birthday at Windsor Castle and c) entered into a contentious Twitter duel with Prince Harry. And at Saturday evening's White House Correspondents' Dinner — her last as FLOTUS — she fully went for it in the sartorial department, too.
For Washington, D.C.'s annual Nerd Prom, the First Lady wore a champagne Givenchy Couture gown from the French house's spring 2016 collection. With a sleek, body-hugging dress and a crystal-embellished sheath layered on top, the outfit was certainly a celebratory one. And, honestly, if there's ever a time to wear head-to-toe sequins before a room of colleagues, friends and special guest Kendall Jenner, it's now.
Between that marigold Narciso Rodriguez dress at January's State of the Union and the radiant Jason Wu gown at last month's White House state dinner, she's taking taking heaps of fashion-adjacent risks in her husband's final year as the leader of the free world. For fans of the Obama presidency, this occasion may be bittersweet, but man do we look forward to watching her depart her post in style.
