Because no one likes the "I've got dandruff" look.

Say what you want on the subject of daily hair-washing, but personally, I'm firmly of the every-two-days camp. It's a topic I've asked pro hairstylists in the industry about, and their responses? Overwhelmingly supportive.

I go through dry shampoos like most people go through mascaras or cleansers. I always have one (sometimes two) full-sized options somewhere in my bedroom and a miniature can sitting at my desk at work. Sure, there have been favorites, but I've faced many disappointments in my quest for the perfect dry shampoo that doesn't leave any chalky residue in my dark brunette roots. But when I think about my Holy Grail, it's got to be Batiste.

I'm sure the brunettes reading this will feel my struggle: most formulas are a universal white-ish mist that doesn't always absorb completely. But listen, my dark-haired friends — Batiste has got you. Its lineup of 10 different formulas includes not one, but two brunette shades, in addition to one for blondes. Even the scent, which I find vaguely vanilla-y, is light and lovely — not powdery like some dry shampoos which leave my hair smelling like a grandma. (No shade intended towards grandmas.)

However, part of my love for this particular product is its serious nostalgia factor: I first discovered it at a trip to a Monoprix during my semester abroad in Paris, and used it so often that spritzing it now is enough to take me back to my quiet bedroom near Parc Monceau, where I'd reach for it in between regular washes... and (maybe, possibly, but cannot confirm) on mornings after a night of partying in Montmartre.
