The week leading up to the 4th of July is probably when most normal people begin to think about sunscreen. I say "probably" because I'm not a normal person when it comes to sunscreen. I'm an obsessive. (Sorry, not sorry: I'm a beauty editor who has spent years learning about skin cancer and how UV exposure can make your skin look like worn-out shoe leather if you're not careful.) That means I wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every single day and have tried just about every formula out there that fits those specifications. So I'm pretty confident when I call this one a game-changer.
It checks every box on my list of basic sunscreen requirements: It has broad-spectrum, SPF 30 coverage; it's fairly long-lasting; and it comes in a small, beach-bag friendly tube. But the texture is what really sets this formula apart. It's a completely transparent, serum-like gel that spreads easily and smoothly over skin without excessive rubbing. It's not at all greasy or sticky and there's no chance of it leaving a chalky cast, even on dark skin tones. So it's pretty much a magical unicorn of the sunscreen world that makes me Elaine-Benes-in-the-following-GIF-excited:
So far, I've found only one drawback to this sunscreen that's worth noting. The formula contains dimethicone, a form of silicone, which can be a bit heavy for oily skin types and wind up leading to clogged pores if not removed properly. I'd suggest using an oil-based cleanser like Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil at the end of the day to make sure you're fully dissolving and removing the sunscreen. But the plus side of dimethicone is that it creates a primer-like, satiny base for your makeup. Which once again brings me back to the point that this sunscreen is a total game-changer.
