With each Gucci review we write, there are a handful of descriptors to which we keep coming back. Eccentric, vintage-tinged, playful, unisex, geeky and vibrant all come to mind, and for good reason — Alessandro Michele's noted penchant for prints, patterns and accessories have transformed Gucci into a house of decoration. On Monday, the Kering-owned label debuted its spring 2017 men's range in Milan with a mixture of these fresh and seasoned features. Would you have expected for pants-less cartoon hero Donald Duck to have made an appearance on several pieces of knitwear? Probably not, but with Gucci, that's all part of the fun.

Scroll on for a look at the newest elements sure to become favored staples in coming collections, and see all the looks from the Gucci men's spring 2017 collection in the gallery below.

Monogramming

As Gucci plans to expand its DIY offerings going forward, customizable, oversized monograms made a healthy appearance on the runway. Giant, sewn-in letters sat atop patterned suits and jackets, similar iterations of which we can expect to see all over the streets throughout Fashion Month.

Disney Characters

Fashion's undeniable "Disney moment" has been well-documented on this very website for months (see also: Coach, Dolce & Gabbana, etc.), but this is the first time we've seen the cutesy illustrations hit the Gucci runways. Donald Duck cropped up a number of times on various pieces of knitwear, giving an otherwise expected collegiate silhouette a more playful punch.

Rain Hoods

Gucci has been gradually adding more outerwear offerings to its collections for several seasons now, with its most recent expansion being the rain jacket. This bright, banana yellow coat may be slightly cartoonish — i.e., reminiscent of Curious George's Man in the Yellow Hat — but it's otherwise timeless in a more retro, 1940s-era way.

Knee Socks

Knee socks seem to be a natural extension of Gucci's now-signature geek-chic aesthetic but this is first time the accessory was included in earnest in a collection. The pieces took all sorts of colors and textures, be them black, gender-bending fishnets or a heavier, moss green version.

Basketball Shorts

As the so-called "Vetements effect" continues to climb across the fashion world, unexpected streetwear elements like basketball shorts, distressed T-shirts and oversized hoodies are infiltrating more and more labels. Enter Gucci-branded basketball shorts.

Fisherman Sandals

Will Gucci's strappy, flat fisherman sandals become the horsebit loafers of the summer months? If only judging by their prevalence on this particular runway, we wouldn't be surprised.

Epaulets

Much like the bevy of knee socks, it's somewhat surprising that it took Michele this long to gravitate towards epaulets — otherwise known as the vaguely old-timey shoulder decorations used as insignia of rank by armed forces. (Like Prince Charming in "Cinderella.") The accent poses an exciting juxtaposition when worn with femme jackets and excellently complements more military-inspired pieces, as seen above.

Chokers

And finally, not even Michele was able to avoid the flourish of choice for the legions of Instagram-approved Cool Teens™.
