Urban Outfitters is having a hard time getting shoppers into its stores these days, so the majority of the people who do go into them must be people like me, who work directly across the street from one of the retailer's locations. I went in last week searching for a few last-minute, inexpensive items for an upcoming vacation to Puerto Rico. I wound up buying a pair of shorts and, on my way out, I spotted this refreshingly simple little black dress. I loved the minimalist shape — the spaghetti straps and square neckline are both things I'm majorly feeling right now; the slight A-line silhouette is universally flattering and the fact that the straps are adjustable made it ideal for a short person like myself. I returned to the register and bought it without trying it on.
Turns out I needn't worry about shortening the straps: this dress is tiny — both tight and impossible to bend over in — though the vibe is somehow less scandalous and more Posh Spice, if that makes sense. It's also one of the first "going out" dresses I've tried on in which I actually feel like myself. And as a result, the world might see me wearing less and going out more this summer. We'll see.
Silence + Noise Audrey Ponte A-Line Mini Dress, $69, available at Urban Outfitters.
