Perfect-eyebrow-haver and "Pretty Little Liars" star Lucy Hale inspires beauty envy on the regular, and the braid she wore today while promoting PLL on CBS's "The Talk" is no exception. I mean, look at it:
It's a fairly simple, no-frills style; just a center part with two Dutch braids that meet at the nape of the neck, where they're pinned up. That pinned up part is key to this look's timeliness; getting the hair scooped up and off of the neck is ideal for this very, very warm first official week of summer.
Though a style like this could easily turn fussy or boring, the softness of the braids — paired with loose wisps around the hairline — makes it feel modern and romantic. Hale's go-to hairstylist Kristin Ess, who also often works with Lauren Conrad, created the look. To get it, she started by prepping the hair with Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray, then rough-drying it. Then she created the two braids, crossed the tails over each other at the nape of the neck, and tucked them underneath before pinning them in place.
To soften the braids and add even more of a gritty texture, Ess sprinkled Big Sexy Hair Powder Play all over, then patted it in gently while loosening the braids slightly. After pulling out some hairs to leave them loose around the face, the final step was to mist on hairspray. Ess favors Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Volumizing Hairspray, which she describes as "a dry hairspray" that leaves hair soft rather than stiff or shiny. "Using a dry, dusty hairspray is my favorite way to finish a textured braid," she says.
