Chanel ambassadress and celebrity offspring Willow Smith, 15, saw the debut of a major campaign on Monday. Karl Lagerfeld chose her as part of the French house's family of muses back in March, and since then, Smith has been wearing Chanel at her big events (see: the Met Gala) and popping up in the front row of its runway shows. But her role with Chanel is now more than just ambassador — Smith is the star of the new fall/winter eyewear campaign, photographed as usual by Lagerfeld himself. The young musician is signed with The Society Management and has previously starred in a Marc Jacobs campaign.
"Swathed in jewels from the Fall-Winter 2016/17 Ready-to-Wear collection, she breathes new energy into the world of Chanel eyewear," said the brand in a statement, adding that her youth and energy charmed Lagerfeld. Smith follows in the footsteps of another stylish famous kid, Lily-Rose Depp, 17, whose Chanel eyewear campaign was released a year ago, before landing a fragrance campaign for the house this year. Cara Delevingne is another frequent face, even after (basically) retiring from modeling, which just goes to show how important these campaigns are — and how significant it is that Chanel is featuring a black woman front and center.
