The haute couture shows offer a chance for fashion houses to flaunt their creative prowess, artistry and craftsmanship — and that attention to detail often translates to the hair and makeup looks that accompany the collections. Though perhaps not as ornate as the bejeweled face masks or the crystal-studded lips of couture seasons past, this week's makeup looks were stunning nonetheless. And this time around, the focus was on the eyes.
Rather than create one uniform look for all of the models at Dior, makeup artist Peter Philips dreamed up an array of different eyeliner interpretations. Some models wore graphic black swipes while others got metallic flashes; the one constant was that every look was intense.
Makeup artist Pat McGrath also incorporated variety at the Atelier Versace show, where she gave about half of the models sparkly ruby lips, and the other half elongated, silvery-blue cat eyes. (She also teased a new product from Pat McGrath Labs on Instagram.)
At Chanel's show — which was held in a theater that was transformed into a replica of the label's atelier — makeup artist Tom Pecheux went all out with lashes, creating a doll-like effect by layering a thick fringe both above and below the eye.
