Alyssa's Sporty, Subtly Patriotic Swimsuit for July 4

Fourth of July weekend is upon us, and with it comes the unofficial uniform of blue jeans, white T-shirts, bandanas and, of course, stars and stripes galore. Basically, the more closely your outfit resembles the cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Born In The U.S.A.," the better. While I'm certainly proud to be an American, themed dressing isn't my thing, so I prefer to take a more subtle approach when it comes to paying sartorial homage to a holiday.

Full disclosure: I bought this sporty Flagpole Swim one-piece in black last summer, and its flattering fit and chic silhouette make it fully worth the high price point — and have me considering scooping up another color. This cherry red version would be a great way to make a patriotic statement for the fourth of July, without going full-on American flag. As an added patriotic bonus, Flagpole's designs are made right here in New York City.

If, for some reason, I decided to venture out somewhere besides the pool or beach, it could even double as a bodysuit with some high-waisted shorts, a long skirt or breezy wide-leg pants. But if we're being honest, I don't plan on wearing much more than this until Tuesday — unless you count the glass of rosé permanently attached to my hand as an accessory. Happy Independence Day, friends!
