I just got back from visiting my family in Florida, and while there, I made a mistake no self-respecting Florida native would ever, ever admit to: I got sunburned. Like, really badly.

In my defense, I slathered on SPF 50 at several key points of the day, including an hour before ever going outside, but the hours logged snorkeling for scallops in the Gulf really took their toll on my back, which earned several pained looks from my friends when we got back on dry land.

As anyone who has boobs and has experienced self-lobsterdom can attest, wearing a bra while sunburned is the fucking worst. Luckily, I had packed this bralette from Aerie that I typically wear lounging around the apartment or sleeping in hot weather. I had never considered wearing a bralette out in public — I am not in the small-chested camp, let's put it that way — but this gave me just enough support to get by while relieving my back from a constant pinching pain. Plus, the detailed high neckline looked pretty poking out of tank tops. While I hope to never have a sunburn this bad again, I will definitely reconsider my position on wearing bralettes outside of the apartment.
