How to Get Perfect, Beachy Waves When You Have Short Hair

Because not everyone has waist-length extensions.

Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube — a search for "makeup tutorial" and "hair tutorial" yields more than five million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what's best.

"Beachy waves" is a phrase you've heard and/or read, oh, about 17,042 times. And yet, there's always more to explore with this area of effortless-looking (though often not actually effortless) hairstyle. Let's think about this: The archetype beachy wave haver is someone with mermaid hair. You know, the kind that billows gracefully in the ocean breeze and hangs down somewhere around her waist. But most actual humans don't have that kind of enviable length (or the patience/financial means to enable it through hair extensions). So for every person that digs the beach waves vibe but has medium-to-short hair, there's this tutorial from vlogger Estée Lalonde. (Side note: That is her actual name. Have you ever heard a more perfect beauty vlogger name? Didn't think so.)

Lalonde's technique is easy, even if it's not exactly simple (crucial steps require ample amounts of Ouai Wave Spray, a blow-dryer and a curling iron). Watch the full video to see her exact step-by-step method and pick up some of her other useful tips for making the style last throughout the day.
