Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube — a search for "makeup tutorial" and "hair tutorial" yields more than five million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what's best.
Kendall Jenner may have just landed her first-ever Vogue cover this September, but she's been a regular inside the magazine since 2014. Back in December 2015, she starred in an editorial with a killer smoky eye created by makeup artist Lisa Eldridge. And because sometimes no-makeup makeup can get a bit boring after a while, Eldridge also created a video tutorial that breaks down the steps to recreate Jenner's perfectly smudgy makeup look.
In the video, Eldridge methodically works her way through creating an even, flawless complexion, filling in brows and plenty of highlighting. Then comes the actual eye makeup, which is mostly the result of a drugstore product (!). Eldridge starts with Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr Cream Eyeshadow in black, which she smudges all over the lid and builds up to a more opaque effect with multiple layers. She also buffs it along the lower lash line, following it with black eyeliner and mascara. Watch the full video below to see what goes into Eldridge's technique, and how she finishes off the look.
