Days before Alexander Wang's surf-inspired spring 2017 show walked at New York Fashion Week, the designer released the full list of his 23 fall 2016 #WangSquad members — Kylie Jenner, Skrillex, Anna Ewers, Lexi Boling, et al. — who would presumably appear in his campaign for the season. The first time Wang unveiled a #WangSquad project (which consisted of over 50 still images and video components) for spring 2016, photographer Steven Klein followed the designer's pals around their natural habitats in Manhattan and Brooklyn, capturing them in everyday situations: Hitting up the laundromat, grabbing bagels at the bodega, riding the subway and, of course, doing some sketchy late-night partying.
This time around, the squad is taking over Los Angeles (fitting, considering Wang is a California native), and in the first campaign teaser released on Monday night features the crew getting rowdy in a sprawling mansion, complete with a floor-to-ceiling bar. Skrillex provides the soundtrack, as Jenner and Tyga make out in a hallway, models Katie Moore, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Issa Lish and Alice Metza get a dance party started and, as the grand finale, a wide-eyed Ewers starts grinding with Jenner in a bathroom, with Tyga watching from inside a bathtub. If this all sounds delightfully debaucherous to you, watch the clip above, and stay tuned for updates as the full campaign rolls out.
Update, Sept. 30: The #WangSquad's next target? An empty Beverly Hills mansion. In a new clip released Friday, Binx Walton, Lexi Boling, Hanne Gaby Odiele and more models break into a mansion on a golf cart to steal wine, skateboard off the steps and wreak general havoc. See the clip below.
Update, Oct. 3: In two new videos directed by Director X and debuting exclusively on Complex, we see #WangSquad members Zoe Kravitz, A$AP Ferg, Tinashe, Vince Staples and Metro Boomin' join the party. "King Pin," a song by RL Grime featuring Big Sean, plays in the background of both clips while the group drinks champagne, dances on tables, plays pool and, in Boling's case, prepares a joint. While "the actors were in acting mode," as Director X told Complex, "the models were having a good time, period. They were enjoying themselves."
