I lack the patience, free time and innate coolness to rummage through authentic sources of vintage denim to find jeans that actually fit me, so on a couple of occasions, I've spent too much money to get the same look with less effort on my part. The first was Reformation's upcycled and tailored vintage Levi's at about $120.
And more recently, on a desperate search for a similarly straight-legged, high-waisted silhouette in black, I dropped twice that amount on these Citizens of Humanity Liya Outsiders. They have the button-up closure and thick, stiff fabric of old Levi's and have even been stone-washed and bleached to appear more time-worn. I did, however, use my own scissors to even out the intentionally uneven hem, since that felt a little too close to Vetements for comfort.
Do I still feel a little bit like a fraud and a sucker? Yes. Do I love these jeans though? Definitely, yes.
Citizens of Humanity Liya Outsider jeans, $268, available at Need Supply.
