5 Genius Tricks For Organizing Your Entire Beauty Stash

Tips and tricks from a proud product junkie.

As a beauty product junkie, I've accumulated a pretty serious stash over the years that has quietly claimed a sizable percentage of the space in my apartment. And given that I live in a tiny one in New York City, this has created a very real organizational conundrum. Over the years, I've carefully honed my own beauty product storage method that maximizes bathroom and bedroom real estate while also allowing the prettiest beauty products in my collection to serve a dual purpose as decor. And now I'm sharing my tips with you.

The general breakdown of my organizational system

I store all of my skin-care and hair products in a vintage trunk and have set up compartments for cleansers, masks, serums, moisturizers, body washes/soaps and body lotions. For hair, I've got spots for shampoo, conditioner and styling products. There's also a blow-dryer that I have yet to open in there. (Yes, this is a very large trunk.)

Moving on to makeup: I use a plastic three-drawer cart with wheels that I picked up at Target to store my foundations, powders, and lip and eye products. It's clear, so I can easily see all the contents inside and quickly(ish) find what I'm looking for. I also picked up a small three-drawer set from The Container Store to store the stuff I reach for most often — my BB cream, foundation, various eyeliners and my go-to nude lipsticks and pencils. My collection of fragrances sits on a tier of my bookshelf, where it's protected from sun and light, two factors that, with prolonged exposure, can damage the quality of perfume.

However, what works for me might not work for everyone! The Internet (and a little website called Pinterest) is a gold mine for surprisingly genius organizing and de-cluttering ideas — and usually on the cheap, too. (Plus, who doesn't love a good DIY project?) Keep scrolling for five organization hacks that caught our eye.

1. Picture ledges make great nail polish shelves.

Transform your stash into your very own nail salon. Get them from Ikea, here.

2. And cake stands make adorable vanity trays.

Note: While perfume bottles look pretty on mirrored trays, it might not be the best long-term storage solution for your fragrances, so make sure they're not in direct sunlight. (Nail polish is another option!)

3. Spice racks and mini flower pots work for just about everything.

So cute, right?

4. You can repurpose candle holders as makeup brush brush stands.

Because, let's be real, that's half the reason you shelled out for that Diptyque candle anyway.

5. A cart can help make everything easily accessible.

Stash all of your nail polishes, palettes and tools in one place — and wheel it around to do your makeup wherever you want.
